Plage des Rochers Beach, Cannes - La Bocca
Strip of sand beach in the quieter area of Cannes la Bocca
This series of soft sand beaches just west of Cannes have some beautiful red rocky outcrops providing some good snorkelling opportunities and a gorgeous view across the Bay of Cannes to the Esterel Mountains.
The combination of deep red rock and turquoise blue Mediterranean make this beach a visual treat and it is generally uncrowded. There are fresh water showers along the shoreline, but there aren’t any toilets on the beach. There is a free car park 200m from the beach and parking along the main road of Boulevard du Midi which runs along the back of the beach.
In some sections of the beach you'll find beach volleyball courts, a popular sport in these parts. It can be great entertainment to watch. This is another popular area for joggers and cyclists as they continue on to towards to Cannes or back to Cannes la Bocca.
A pretty and uncrowded row of beaches with stunning views and decent snorkelling, perfect for getting away from crowds and being in a non-smoking environment. However, it’s near the main road with little in the way of facilities.
Beach Bars & Beachclubs in Cannes
There are several beach clubs back towards Cannes and the Old Port on Plage du Midi. There are also small kiosks selling food and drink along the edge of the beach, and it’s a fairly short walk along the Boulevard Midi back to the centre of Cannes le Bocca for cafés and restaurants.
Setting & Location
Plage les Rochers is situated right next to the train station and road at Cannes la Bocca, which makes it very convenient for public transport access. The beach stretches out in each direction, punctuated by rocky outcrops. The beach is guarded at its back by a wall and can only be reached by stairs (so not ideal for wheelchair or pram access), but due to the proximity of the road, it can suffer some traffic noise.
Water Safety & Clarity
Crystal clear water for much of the summer. This beach is not lifeguarded.
Please be aware that this is a strictly non-smoking beach and there is a fine if you're caught, so walk back to the road if you want to smoke, or choose another beach. The Cannes coastline only has two non-smoking beaches at present (the other being Bijou Beach back in Cannes proper).
There are no jellyfish nets in place during the summer at Plage des Rochers. You can check for jellyfish sightings around Cannes on the map at this handy site, and if there are any alerts you can head to nearby Plage de Roubine in Cannes la Bocca, or Plage Mace, Plage Gazagnaire or Plage du Midi in Cannes proper, where there are jellyfish nets between June and September.
Beach Quality
A good wide stretch of soft sand between rocky outcrops. We’d suggest bringing a beach umbrella to give you some welcome shade.
Watersports Nearby
This is a great area for snorkelling - situated between rocky outcrops there is good and easy access to the water from the beach and then plenty to explore around the rocks.
