In an announcement yesterday, the Mayor of Cannes stated that he has nominated the Bay of Cannes to become a UNESCO world heritage site.

The Bay of Cannes, the Croisette and the Lérins Islands have been presented to UNESCO in an effort to protect them and enhance them in years to come.

Support has already been shown by the Director of Honour of the Cannes Film Festival and a number of other high profile locals. You can support the inclusion to the list by signing this petition.

A committee from UNESCO will make a decision on the Bay of Cannes inclusion at their annual meeting, which this year, takes place in Bonn, Germany between 28th June and 8th July.
