After several weeks of drama on the red carpet, millions being raised for charity and of course film screening after film screening, the 2015 Cannes film Festival has come to an end.

It was however, somewhat of a 'down year' as some critics have described it. As you would expect of such an event, critics were picking on every small detail and no film came out unscathed. However, there were many deserved winners and the film industry's most prestigious prize was awarded for the film 'Dheepan' which follows a trio of Sri Lankans who pretend to be a family in order to flee their war-torn country for a housing project in France.

The winners for this years film festival are as follows:

  • Palme d'Or: 'Dheepan' by French director Jacques Audiard
  • The Grand Prix: 'Son of Saul' by first time Hungarian director Laszlo Nemes
  • Best Director: Hou Hsiao-Hsein for 'The Assasin'
  • Best Actor: Vincent Lindon in 'The Measure of a Man'
  • Best Actress (this was a tie): Rooney Mara in 'Carol' and Emmanuelle Bercot in 'Mon Roi'
