In a statement released by David Lisnard, Mayor of Cannes and Vice President of the Alpes-Maritimes Department, he explains the reasons behind the cancellation of the Fireworks Festival.

Lisnard explains that after weighing up the potential consequences of either decision and of course given the emotional and geographical proximity to the attack in Nice on Thursday 14th July, he must in all good conscience cancel the fireworks display on Thursday 21st July 2016.

"The Fireworks Festival will resume on 29 July, with new security arrangements, a specific tribute to the victims of the Nice terrorist attack, and affirmation, by the recovery of the world's largest fireworks festival, our resilience and defense of our way of life as the Riviera spirit. " - David Lisnard.
