Musee de la Photographie (Photography Museum)

Free museum showing the history of photography in the area

featured in Sights & sites

Right in the centre of the old town of Mougins is an interesting photography museum. On display are various antique cameras plus old photography equipment, and a large collection of portraits of Pablo Picasso.

Created in 1986 thanks to the donation of the famous photographer André Villers, this museum shows photographs as well as old cameras and photography material. Especially interesting are the portraits of Picasso made by some of the best photographers of the time, including Robert Doisneau, Jacques-Henri Lartigue, David Douglas Duncan or the same André Villers who met the Spanish painter in 1953.

There are also temporary exhibitions throughout the year.

Open from February to December, Tuesday to Sunday 10:00-12:30 and 14:00-18:00 (closes at 19:00 from June 15th to September 15th).

Visitor comments

  • "Free entry to this quaint and compact museum. Admire the cube of melded old cameras in the entrance-way, and you will probably recognise some of your early camera models. Set over 3 levels, accessed by a steep spiral staircase, the displays include large sections on Pablo Picasso who lived in Mougins.  There are lovely views of the old village of Mougins from the upper gallery level." - Trip Advisor
  • "A great collection of arresting photos of Pablo Picasso who spent his final years in Mougins and died here." - Trip Advisor
  • "Nice little stop while walking through the village of Mougins. Candid shots of Picasso (with this weather I now know why so many photos of him capture him shirtless and in shorts!). Very impressive photo display from the 2 featured photographers." - Trip Advisor
